Queen Nation – A Tribute to the Music of Queen

at The Lyric Theatre Mar 28, 2018 7:00 pm

Travel back to the height of Arena Rock and experience Queen when Queen Nation pays homage to the golden age of Queen’s high-energy, unforgettable concerts of the ‘70s and ‘80s. Featuring Joe Retta, Gregory Finsley, Mike McManus, Pete Burke, and Parker Combs, Queen Nation is a live, 90-minute production of Queen’s biggest hits from “Bohemian Rhapsody” to “We Are the Champions.” Freddie Mercury can never be replaced, but Queen Nation honors his legacy like no one else can.

Formed in London in 1970, Queen brought Freddie Mercury, Brian May, Roger Taylor, and John Deacon together in one incredible group that changed the history of rock and roll. Encompassing a wide variety of genres from progressive rock to heavy metal and pop, Queen was one of the biggest and most popular stadium rock groups of all time. Songs such as “We Will Rock You” and “We are the Champions” became permanent sports anthems and with nearly 300 million records sold, Queen is recognized as one of the best-selling music artists ever. Following the death of Freddie Mercury in 1991, Queen disbanded, but was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001.

Queen Nation’s front man and keyboardist Mike McManus was born in Boston and studied music at the Berklee School of Music before founding the hard-rock band Egodog. Also on vocals and keyboard is Greg Finsley, who took up percussion at the age of 11 and has played with the greatest musicians in New Orleans since 1995. Bassist Parker Combs began playing standup bass at age 12 and has spent the last 18 years of his career playing original and cover music in a variety of genres from rock to funk to country. Drummer Peter Burke has been active in the LA music scene since the mid ‘90s and has performed throughout Europe with the CSUN Symphony Orchestra. Burke has also appeared on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Good Morning America, and On Air with Ryan Seacrest. Presented by Allengang Entertainment and The Lyric Theatre.

Neil Berg’s 100 Years of Broadway will recreate some of the greatest moments from the most famous shows of the 20th century, including Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables, Cats, and Jesus Christ Superstar. Starring the actors who starred in many of these hit shows, 100 Years of Broadway “features some of the best songs from the best Broadway shows, all sung by some of the most talented performers working today.” What makes 100 Years of Broadway truly unique is composer and lyricist Neil Berg’s inspired arrangements of classics and new hits.

Starring a cast of five Broadway stars accompanied by a dazzling New York live band, 100 Years of Broadway was co-created by Broadway veteran Neil Berg and Adam Friedson. Berg’s credits range from the off-Broadway hit The Prince and the Pauper to a brand-new musical version of the famous film Grumpy Old Men starring Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau. Berg is currently collaborating with the Pulitzer prize-winning playwright Robert Schenkkan on a new rock musical called The Twelve as well as a fairytale musical Never Grimm with writer Jonathan Feldman. In addition to his work on the stage, Neil Berg is an accomplished film composer with credits including Once Upon a Time in Brooklyn and Searching for Bobby D. In 2012, Berg was awarded the Ellis Island Medal of Honor for his lifetime of artistry and dedication to community service for helping to raise million for homeless youth. As the co-owner of the SJR Theater Workshop, a theater camp for students in Montvale, New Jersey, Berg helps instruct over 200 young actors and singers every year.

In Neil Berg’s 100 Years of Broadway, veteran composer and lyricist Neil Berg takes on the greatest shows of all time in one unforgettable night. The show has played in over 120 cities a year for the past decade, bringing Broadway to cities across America. Past stars of 100 Years of Broadway have included Betty Buckley, Liz Callaway, Ben Vereen, and Alex Santoriello.
